Joey was supposed to start "school" (or Mother's Day Out) today. He'll be attending two mornings a week and we are all looking forward to this, especially Joey who loves being around other kids. But school was cancelled today--a snow day. Here are some fun facts about our Nebraska winter thus far as printed in this morning's Omaha World Herald...
-The snow that fell in Omaha this week, including Wednesday's 4.8 inches, has pushed the metro area over the 30.3 inches that's normal for an entire winter season.
-There is more snow on the ground, 21 inches, than in any January since 1948 — the earliest date for which reliable snow records are available.
-The average temperature in Omaha for the first five days of the year has been 3.1 degrees, the third-lowest on record dating to the late 1800s. Reliable temperature records have been kept longer than snowfall measurements.
-And on Friday, Omaha's daytime high isn't expected to climb above zero. That hasn't happened since 1997, said Ken Dewey, an applied climatologist at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's School of Natural Resources.
Joey has been a good sport and has been having fun playing inside with his new Christmas toys, but the cabin fever is starting to settle in for all of us...
